Takis - delicious, but not the friendliest of treats to choose from 4. Thin cut chips one at a time is better: pringles, lays cheese its 5. Granola bars - loaded with sugar and many of them have sticky dried fruits and hard nuts in them 6. Soft Ice cream sandwich - this is SAFER to bite into! 4. Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream - The chocolate pieces get frozen and really hard to bite into. I've seen them unfortunately pop off braces before. So beware! 5. Plain Ice cream is a great option, which can also reduce discomfort from braces. Tips for Sugar and Braces: 1. Avoid frequent snacking 2. Eat with a main meal to reduce the 'sugar' or 'acid attack' on the teeth 3. Rinse with water 4. Wait 30 minutes 5. Brush and floss! TRIANGLE RUBBER BANDS WITH BRACES? Elastics are used to help move teeth in certain directions and to adjust the bite. Triangle rubber bands are usually connected from the upper canines, to the lower canine and first premolar. Here are 3 reasons your orthodontist might use them: 1. Anterior Open Bite - Where the teeth don't touch in the front 2. Canines that are up a little high and we are trying to bring them down faster. (Different than how we bring in impacted canines so keep that in mind!) 3. Commonly used at the end of braces treatment to fine tune the final tooth positions! Anyone notice something weird about my braces model at the end? 👀🧐🫣 . .. ... 2 FRUITS TO AVOID WITH BRACES *what to eat instead 1. Lemons - these are very acidic, not great for braces. Some people love em, so if you're one of those people. My recommendation would be to limit this to once in a while, definitely not everyday. And that goes for lemon water too! Over time, it can wear down enamel! Rinse with water after and don't brush your teeth right away. 2. Strawberries and pineapple are great! 3. whole apples - these are huge culprits of bracket breakers, totally avoid! 4. Sliced apples - GREAT OPTION! Sometimes the skin can be tough and break braces even if they're sliced.
