Those are some powerful affirmations by Hype Mom! When Cashy was 5 years old, she wanted this drop in so badly. She kept struggling with needing to stomp the board down to the concrete which would then have her body leaning in with the drop in. So I came up with the ‘Unicorn Stomp’ since her Vans were mini unicorns and it was relatable to the things she really likes. As you can see, I made it seem like that stomp was so powerful that she was going to crack the ground. That was all the encouragement she needed to do this successfully. A vast majority of skateboarding is commitment. If you’re even the slightest bit doubting yourself, just wait. When you’re feeling 100 and confident you can land something that’s where the confidence in committing comes in to play. In the journey of skating, you will run out or tricks or bail on them and immediately know if you just committed you would likely have stuck it. It’s not guaranteed that just by committing you will land it by any means. Although you’re far more likely to stomp it the more you trust commuting to the trick. Luckily for little Cashy here she had me with quick reactions to keep her some taking some gnarly slams but she only needed me a few times and she was dropping in all on her own! Do you remember the first time you dropped in or landed a new trick? If so tell us about it in the comments! Hi, we’re The Rowley’s! We love to travel and ride sideways on boards of all types. We homeschool our daughter Cashy through unique experiences around the world with an emphasis on adventure and fun. Not exactly how we planned to end our season. Both in her trying this massive line of boxes and the hard slam that came with it. Don’t worry it only ended up being a bruised knee and some sore muscles. At the end of every season, our local hill sets up the Box-Of-Death! They put together about 10 boxes and let people try their hand at it. So naturally after our amazing last day riding before we were getting ready to leave Nick sarcastically mentioned to Cash about giving it a go. She took a look at it and said with confidence “I will give it a try!” and try she did. We get that watching her slam hard and cry can stir up mixed emotions, trust me. As her parents it is heartbreaking but as you can see with this and other videos that we have posted I (Whitney) tend to get real quiet and monitor how she is acting while Nick assess her. Of course there will undoubtedly be the haters that tell us to stop filming but honestly we look back at this footage to learn for our own reactions in the future as well as sharing with her doctor. After we checked her out and she said things hurt I then looked at the video on my phone to see exactly how she landed and to pinpoint more of where the injury could be. This also helped distract her a bit from what her dad was doing. Let her relax and feel what her body was telling her. Nick did an outstanding job and once we got home we made sure to have her checked out. Just some bumps and bruises but nothing major. The reason we are sharing this is because it’s okay to show that it’s not always perfect. That there will be hard crashes in this sport and most importantly that crying does not mean you are weak in any way. We asked Cash if she was willing to share this before we even started working on it and she said she wanted to show other kids that it’s okay to fall and to take a break but that it’s important to try new things. Man this little girl is just amazing! #snowboarding #snowboard #snowboardinggirl #parenting #parentingdoneright #parentsoftiktok
Toys teach tricks! 6 years old and Cashy stomped that first try. This is one of the coolest ways we’ve seen snowboarding tricks be taught, especially when it comes to young riders. Being able to spend a day with @Snowboard Trainers he had our little girl doing all kinds of new tricks by the end! Every spring our family has migrated south to @Mammoth Mountain for some warm weather shredding. Mostly because Mammoth has some of the best LTR (Learn To Ride) parks in the world and they hold snow sometimes till mid July. Unfortunately this season we are not making it down that way but this moment with Duncan was too good not to share, plus we added more to this edit that nobody has seen yet! #snowboarding #teaching #toys
Tutu snowboarding jibs over the last 8 years. Looking at this progression on these jibs, it’s no wonder why all these other little girls switched their outfits to rock the tutu while riding after being inspired by Cashy #snowboarding #trendsetter
As her father, it gives me proud tears how sweet our daughter is after seeing me crash so hard snowboarding. She is so genuinely concerned that I’m not hurt but she also does everything she can to cheer me back up. It’s a testament to how Whit and I have raised her to have so much empathy while also knowing that humor and distraction works wonders when someone crashes out hard. It’s a very proud moment for me as much as my almost 40 year old body feels otherwise. In this exact moment. Once I realized my body wasn’t broken or seriously injured and before more pain had yet to set in, I said to myself that I needed to try and finish this run and hit some more features. One side I needed to do that for me to try to redeem myself to myself. The other side I wanted to show my daughter strength. Show her that we all take hard falls in this sport. Some will end your day but some are just tough slams and it’s about getting back up to not let it completely ruin your day. Once I hit those buckets at the end that I promised Cashy I’d hit I knew I was fine-ish. What I really love about this is what I didn’t get to witness with my eyes. We continue down to the lower features and Cashy stomps that last rail and gets so stoked for herself! She didn’t let my fall stop her. She charged on with me. You can hear her doing any and every thing she can to cheer me up and it’s so incredibly beautiful. However she knew without a doubt that the Skittle power, 80% of the time, works every time.
Alright folks, listen up. We finally ticked Taos Ski Valley off the bucket list, and let me tell you, it lives up to the hype. Forget those crowded, overpriced resorts. This place? Pure magic. Been hearing about Taos for years, and the terrain? Absolutely iconic. With a base elevation of over 9,200 feet, you know you’re getting some serious altitude and incredible snow. And speaking of iconic, The Blake? Forget what you think you know about ski-in/ski-out. Elevated vibes meets New Mexico charm, and it’s right in the heart of the village. Shops are all local, supporting real folks, not some big chain. Need a break from the slopes? Taos town is something else. Quaint plaza, unique shops, and a nightlife that’s got its own vibe. Did you know the town of Taos itself is over 300 years old? It’s not your typical ski town, steeped in history, and that’s exactly why it’s so good. Now, here’s the kicker: getting here. Skip the long drives from Albuquerque or Santa Fe. JSX flies straight into Taos. Land, grab your gear, and you’re on the mountain in half an hour. That’s how you do a ski trip. If you want a ski trip that’s more than just skiing, a place that’s got soul, and a community that’ll thank you for finding it, Taos is it. Trust me, this is the real deal. -Nick #snowboarding #traveltok #FamilyFun
Not only did she follow cam but she also hit the jump while filming and didn’t miss a thing! Of course when I finally decide to get on the other side of the lens this happens. Thank goodness for butt pads! #snowboarding #nailedit
Whew that was a CLOSE CALL! That 2 minute mark got hairy! Luckily it wasn’t worse than it could have been. I’ve been following her snowboarding for so long and I usually can predict her movements which allows for such close follow cam moments. The seconds leading in to that moment I was able to kind of anticipate it and dodge what could have been a day ender for us both. Outside of that one moment this video had me laughing quite a bit. To be honest at first I couldn’t understand many of the things she was saying to herself. I had to watch this clip so many times to understand a few of her quiet mumbles to herself. The one right off the start about her speed cracked me up. At the very start of the video you hear me tell her about the “cats” and that’s because they had 2 groomers on the side of the run and the ski patrol in the background of the beginning told us to stay high and well away from those huge machines. If you listen closely you’ll hear her repeating that as a self reminder when we approach them. If you’ve seen our “Find The Texture” video you’ll know these quiet self reminders are common with little Cashy. Anyway, we haven’t done a full raw run in awhile so we figured this was a fun one to share with you all. Thank you in advance for all the love and support you send our way with every video we post. We truly have the best community! -Nick #snowboarding
So proud of what went down yesterday! Cashy hasn’t been on her skateboard in a very long time. Like almost 8 months. Not only because of winter but she also fell a couple times that kind of scared her for a bit. I get it, skateboarding hurts A LOT! So for her to hop back on her board, join her friends and do stuff she’s never actually done before was beyond amazing! It’s like that absence from skating actually made her better. Or maybe it was her shred crew (more on this as they all learned to drop in) that had her hyped up. I don’t know what exactly it was but what I do know is I am a super proud dad! Tell us in the comments how you got started with skateboarding! #Skateboarding #skateboardingisfun #skatergirl #skateboardingtutorials #parenting101 #parentinglife #parentingdoneright
From the first carves of our daughters life, to those clear evening turns at sunset, the memories we’ve made snowboarding at Bogus Basin are priceless #snowboarding
When learning to wakeboard there is a bit of a counter intuitiveness that a beginner will have to overcome. See when the boat is pulling you up you naturally want to pop up super fast and immediately stand up. While that works for when you’ve done it a bunch, it actually is the opposite while learning. At the very start you want to let the boat pull you up instead of forcing a fast stand up because typically you will be pulled over the front of your board until you learn to control it by leaning against the force of the boat. Here are the rules we taught our little girl to help her get up her first time. 1st Rule: Arms straight, knees bent 2nd Rule: Let the boat pull you up 3rd Rule: Keep the nose of your board up 4th Rule: Lean back on your back foot 5th Rule: Smile As you can see in this video, Nick is sitting on the swim platform using his feet to keep the board perpendicular to the boat. He’s doing this to keep her board from turning on her so she can feel the force of the water push against her board which will eventually help her stand up. However the above, with Nick sitting on the swim platform and Cashy directly off the back is very unique to the style of boat. This technique should only be done behind boats that have a V or Direct drive. Meaning the prop is under the hull of the boat not directly off the back. Boats with an inboard/outboard or stern drive (which is directly off the back of the boat) you should not be this close as the prop can suck you in and seriously injure you. For those types of boats, we recommend having someone in the water with you that can help you pop up or start off a dock. With summer right around the corner hopefully this gives you some inspiration to get out there and try yourself or some tips to help others! If you have any questions, just drop them down in the comments and we can help you with getting your littles up and ripping the water too. #wakeboarding #wakeboard #wakeboarder #parenting #parentinglife #parentingdoneright
Yes, we went to New Mexico to go snowboarding! TAOS is undoubtedly the most unique and, in my eyes, the best ski resort you will visit in the continental United States. I’ve had this place on my shred radar for well over a decade now and the mountain did not disappoint one bit! Due to a lower tide snow year, our experience at TAOS was much different than the numerous videos I’ve consumed of their steep and deep terrain. Honestly I am stoked it worked out that way though because we got a TAOS experience unlike anything I had ever seen prior. Ranked 4th by Ski Magazine of the top 30 ski resorts in the western US is a well earned accolade. This mountain is known for being steep (possibly some of the steepest terrain in the USA) but what we experienced is a family friendly destination with zero crowds. Although we didn’t get to push our limits off Kachina Peak, we did get to rip some of the fastest and smoothest groomers we’ve ever experienced. It was sunny spring vibes for our visit with impeccable snow quality on every run. Due to their north facing slopes and a base elevation of 9,200ft, TAOS holds snow very well in between their well known winter dumps! One of the days we rode with a TAOS guide named Dan, an absolute legend of a human! Dan was not only an incredible snowboarder. He educated us on the mountain and its New Mexican culture, showed us some secret spots to come back and rip on a pow day, and was a great hype man and instructor to have riding with us. Come to find out (and makes total sense now), TAOS ski school was ranked 1st in North America by USA Today! We see that now after riding with Dan. Their ski school staff and guides are not just for beginners. If you visit TAOS, I highly recommend riding your first day with a guide so they can show you all the good good on the slopes. Beyond the riding the culture at TAOS is beyond anything we’ve ever experienced at a domestic resort. It felt like we were riding in another country to be honest. Everyone we met was smiling and stoked! We will have another video soon showcasing the lodging, village, town of TAOS, and how to get there. Stay tuned!
No passenger princesses in this family! Travel is so much more than the pretty pictures at your destination. You have to get there first! Teaching Cashy how to make her way around the world is one of our goals as parents. Here is the first step. Challenging her to navigate Denver airport and get us to our connecting flight! Some countries you won’t be able to rely on your phone or device to help you get between flights. Sometimes all you have is what the airport provides. That’s why this lesson is huge for her as young traveler who will one day explore this world on her own. There are so many learning opportunities when it comes to travel. Not only do you get the chance to explore different places, cultures and cuisines but you have to get through the mundane stuff first and tap into that inner navigator in order to unlock all the potential in your quest! As we all know it doesn’t always go this smooth but that’s another video for another time. #travel #traveltips #traveltok
